BA in Education / MAT Pathway Program

An accelerated BA/MAT degree program

While you work toward your bachelor’s degree in education, you’re already on your way to earning your master’s degree. When you declare your major in education, you’re automatically earning credit toward your Master of Arts in Teaching with ÀÇÓÑÉçÇø’s dual degree program.

In fact, with this pathway, you’ll be able to:

  • Earn your bachelor’s degree in education, education and a co-major of your choosing, or STEM education
     
  • Earn your teaching license in an area of your choosing
     
  • Earn your master’s degree in teaching with only two additional courses

  • You get a master’s degree with just two more courses (8 credits) compared to the typical 34 to 48 credits of most other master’s programs

One reason I chose ÀÇÓÑÉçÇø was for the Master of Arts in Teaching program. I am going to graduate as an undergrad this year, and I will only have two courses left to complete my master's. So, I will have my master’s by next fall, which is something you cannot find at most universities.

Your checklist for earning your BA, MAT and teaching license

Any student desiring to make a difference as a teacher can take education courses at any point in their undergraduate journey. Whether you complete a major or not, you can use your coursework toward a master’s in teaching degree as a graduate student.

You will be formally admitted to the Master of Art in Teaching program once you:

1. Complete the following foundational courses:  

  •  EDU 1150: Schools and Society
  •  EDU 1250: Educational Psychology
  •  EDU 3260: Theory to Practice
  •  EDU 3500: Diversity and Education

2.  Declare one of the following majors: 

  • Education 
  • Co-major in education and another major of your choosing
  • STEM Education

3.  Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above in your education courses

The courses you take after the foundational courses will also earn you graduate credit. The two courses you’ll complete after completing your initial licensure and bachelor’s degree are:

  • GED 8400: Research and Design
  • GED 8490: Capstone Project
