Become a literacy leader
As a student in the Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate, you鈥檒l be encouraged to act as agents of change in your classroom, school, and community. You鈥檒l enhance learning by using social and cultural backgrounds and the variety of ways individuals learn, challenging the notion of the expendability of children, and valuing children and youth inclusive of race, class, gender, exceptionality, home language, or other social, physical, or cultural characteristics.
This certificate With the Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate, you will:
- Gain a foundation in the theoretical and practical bases of effective instruction, including critical and digital literacy
- Develop the expertise needed to enrich the literacy learning of diverse students across developmental levels, academic disciplines, and social and cultural contexts

We review applications on a rolling basis, meaning you can apply and start your literacy certificate at three separate times throughout the year. We recommend applying at least six weeks before the term you want to start to ensure your spot.

狼友社区鈥檚 Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate is offered primarily online. One course is offered in a hybrid format, and you鈥檒l complete your practicum in your workplace.
Time to complete your literacy certificate
The typical time to complete the certificate is two terms or 7 to 8 months, though you can extend that time if you decide to take fewer courses each term.

How to apply to the Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate program
Applying to the Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate program is simple and only required if this is the first certificate you鈥檝e applied for at 狼友社区 or if you are not enrolled in another 狼友社区 School of Education degree or certificate program.
- Online application (no fee)
- Official transcript of a bachelor鈥檚 degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 from a regionally-accredited college or university
- Send directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope, and official electronic transcripts should be emailed from the institution to gradprog@hamline.edu.
- You do not have to supply transcripts for courses taken at 狼友社区.
Apply your certificate toward a master鈥檚 degree
Enrolling in a certificate program is a great way to experience what the master's programs at 狼友社区 are like. With the Advanced Literacy Leadership Certificate, you鈥檒l earn credits that you can apply toward a 狼友社区 master's degree in education or literacy education, or the doctorate in education.
